Sacramental Preparation for Reconciliation & Eucharist
Class Component: Preparation to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist for the first time is shared between the nine months of classroom instruction led by our second grade Professional Catechist, and the parents of our parish, who establish and nurture homes dedicated to building the Kingdom of God through sharing the lives of their family members with God’s people. Sadlier Publication’s Faith First Legacy Edition is the textbook used in the preparation process.
Classes begin in September and are completed with the reception of First Eucharist after Easter. Following Easter, parish children from our Religious Education Program and School receive Communion in small groups during a series of weekend masses.
Sacramental preparation for children older than second grade can be arranged through our Religious Education Office and is designed on an individual basis. It can include combinations of classroom instruction, individual tutoring and/or home schooling. Children in this age category can schedule the reception of sacraments outside of the small group setting.
Our program calendars for the 2010-11 year will be available in August. Parent/Guardian Component: Two workshops—one centering on the Sacrament of Reconciliation (fall) and one around the Sacrament of Eucharist (spring)--are held for parents and guardians. Their intent is two-fold: 1) to offer continuing adult education on the sacraments themselves, and 2) to give parents the resources for talking about the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist in their homes and living out the messages of forgiveness, love and sharing found within them.
Highly experienced and respected Twin City presenters bring their knowledge and wisdom to the adult education portion of our workshops. Resource folders also filled with sacramental theology, information about the reception of the sacraments and family activities, round out the support services offered to our parents and guardians during this important time.
Campus Family Activities: There are times during the sacramental preparation period when families come together on our campus to pray and ready themselves. Sharing an enjoyable and faith-filled experience, students join the Eucharist Workshop afternoon, and practices for both sacraments, give children and their parents/guardians the opportunity to explore and celebrate their faith as a family. |
