The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops teaches that:
1. All human beings are equal in dignity in the sight of God. Moreover, by reason of their Baptism, all Catholics also share the same divine calling.
2. Catholics with disabilities have a right to participate in the sacraments as fully as other members of the local ecclesial community. “Sacred ministers cannot deny the sacraments to those who seek them at appropriate times, are properly disposed, and are not prohibited by law from receiving them.”
3. Parish sacramental celebrations should be accessible to persons with disabilities and open to their full, active, and conscious participation, according to their capacity.
Saint Rose of Lima Parish strives to live out these fundamental principles of our faith to serve everyone in our community, whatever their ability.
Church building:
The east doors of the church can be operated by electronic handicap accessible buttons.
The nave, narthex, sacristy, and crying rooms are connected without stairs. The sanctuary area contains steps but has handrails for stability.
Parish Center building:
The Parish Center's three floors are connected with a handicap accessible elevator on Skillman Avenue. Please contact the Parish Center prior to your visit to ensure that the Skillman Avenue doors are unlocked.
School building:
Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School is currently assessing ways to improve accessibility to all parts of the building.
Two handicap accessible restrooms are located in the front left of the church, between the Sacred Heart shrine and the northeast doors.
People with disabilities or special needs can receive accommodations in their sacramental preparation and faith formation. Please call our parish office to discuss with our staff.
Personal hearing assistance devices are located near the east doors. Please return them into the charging station for subsequent users. Now, you can connect your Bluetooth enabled hearing aids to our soundsystem. Click here to find out how.
The church has a cry room in the back left where families can participate in the Mass in a place where there is less sensory stimuli.
Persons with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease can receive a consecrated low-gluten Host at anytime by receiving Holy Communion the Priest's communion line. Those with hypersensitivity can receive the Precious Blood from an uncontaminated chalice. Please visit the sacristy before Mass starts, located behind the main altar.
Incense is part of Catholic liturgical worship and devotion. At Saint Rose, we use incense frequently on the high holy days and special seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter. Please inquire with the parish office to learn more.
